I couldn't agree more with the quote about Eddy's character as impossible to personify. There are other un-personifiable qualities as well that can only really exist in the mind.

In the trailer, mere seconds after we are made aware of the fact that this movie has won a "best cinematography award", baby Gus pulls a frozen dead fish out of the river. I realize this award is probably more about human interaction but cmon, that's just lazy.Morrellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01616534596747913258noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3898034955670607884.post-11339214671974960152011-10-28T11:51:14.992-04:002011-10-28T11:51:14.992-04:00Eddy is a good looking girl. I thought that would be a main part of the movie.Halschhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04080859256774039129noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3898034955670607884.post-4447884796661351322011-10-27T13:28:50.997-04:002011-10-27T13:28:50.997-04:00Yeah, this movie isn't for us, fishermen. I me...Yeah, this movie isn't for us, fishermen. I mean, look at the promo poster. The top half is the same as The Notebook. Hollywood is turning this into a love story, not a fishing story, because the former has broad appeal, the latter doesn't.

I can only *hope* that the director somehow understood that Eddy was an extension of Gus's love for the river and fishing - not just some hot chick that happened to chase after steelhead naked. (Also, if you look at the pool she jumped in, in the preview, it was clearly damned with well-organized rocks to give it that perfect circle look.)

I'll probably only see it so I don't come off like a dick when the following conversation inevitably takes place:

"Have you ever tried fly fishing?"
"Yeah, I've fly fished for most of my life."
"Oh really? You must have loved 'The River Why'?"
"...I saw it."Calebhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10802114431497200042noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3898034955670607884.post-22295122362095730952011-10-27T05:39:07.233-04:002011-10-27T05:39:07.233-04:00I have yet to see a movie I enjoy if first I read ...I have yet to see a movie I enjoy if first I read the book....
